African Writers Trust Announces the Shortlist for the Publishing Fellowship Programme Seed Funding 2020

The African Writers Trust is delighted to announce the shortlist for the 2020 Publishing Fellowship programme Seed Funding budget worth EURO 4,200.

For this second edition, 11 Fellows were selected from Uganda, Botswana, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe to participate in the Mentoring and Training workshop, which was held in Uganda from 8th to 14th March 2020. At the end of the training, the Fellows were invited to apply for the seed funding budget. The specific aim of the seed funding is to ensure that the winning project gets the resources it requires to produce a model publication that adheres to acceptable international publishing standards – and to which other publishers can aspire to.

`The Seed Funding applications assessment process was highly competitive. The quality of the applications was outstanding. All aspects of the application requirements, including the editing process, marketing and distribution strategy, and others, were well researched, detailed and well thought through.’

AWT director, Goretti Kyomuhendo said: ‘We are proud of the shortlisted candidates whose manuscripts are eloquently written and worth publishing. These are some of the strongest and vibrant voices on the African continent to watch. We wish to thank DOEN Foundation, our principal partner for this programme for making it all possible.’   

The shortlisted Fellows for the Seed Funding Application 2020 are:

  • Leanet Kamizhi(Zambia)
  • Alvaro Fausto Taruma (Mozambique)
  • Botho Lejowa (Botswana)
  • Farai Mudzingwa (Zimbabwe)
  • Rachael Atukunda Zaramba Mutabingwa(Uganda)

The 2020 Seed Funding winner will be announced on Monday, 18th May 2020.
