The first recipient of The Margaret Busby New Daughters of Africa Award is Idza Luhumyo.  

Idza Luhumyo was born in Mombasa and lives in between Kilifi and Nairobi, where she works as a screenwriter and copywriter. She holds a degree in Law from the University of Nairobi. Her writing has appeared in Jalada Africa, Transition Magazine, African Arguments, and The Masters Review, among other publications. She has previously been on the longlists of the Short Story Day Africa Prize, the Miles Morland Writing Scholarship, and the Gerald Kraak Award. Her writing grapples mainly with Kenyan coastal identities.

She will be starting her studies at SOAS University of London in the autumn.
