As part of the “Cultural Exchange and Engagement in Africa-China Relationships: Defining Possibilities, Realizing Opportunities” conference at Shantou University, representatives from African Writers Trust met with members of the Shantou Writers Association, in Shantou, China, to hold a poetry workshop and discuss creative writing. This event was hosted by the Global Digital Humanities platform at Shantou University.
To our knowledge — that of Shantou University and of African Writers Trust — this is the first time that representatives from an African cultural group met in southern China with representatives from a Chinese cultural group. (In fact, it could be the first time in all of mainland China! The exchanges in Northern China are typically about economics, agriculture, security, and the like).
More pics to come. (Images below courtesy of either TJH or Jackee B. Batanda).
