One year on, Whispers from Vera continues to soar beyond expectations! In August 2023, Goretti Kyomuhendo reissued a revamped version of the beloved novella now turned novel. The first official launch, which happened in August 2023 at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda during the closing ceremony of the 6th Mashariki Literary and Cultural Studies Conference, was a harbinger to many more literary events. The official launch was followed by a second at Goethe Zentrum Kampala, in September 2023. From Book Reviews in leading newspapers like the Daily Monitor, Daily Nation and the East African; to Author Interviews in some of the most respected literary journals in African Literature, such as Brittle Paper and Africa in Dialogue, Whispers from Vera has indeed generated a commendable buzz.
Goretti Kyomuhendo has participated in various conversations about the book. Notable among them is the Mama FM radio interview, a Meet Your Author podcast session with Racheal Kizza. The author was also hosted on the #360MentorAfrica twitter space by renowned corporate executive, Robert Kabushenga.
It is fascinating how Whispers from Vera has transcended borders in a space of one year, amassing a wider readership. In September 2023, the novel was presented and discussed at the Nairobi International Book Fair. Still in Nairobi, Goretti Kyomuhendo held book reading and signing sessions of Whispers from Vera at Cheche Bookshop and Cafe and Soma Nami Books. Whispers from Vera has steadily crossed continents: in October 2023, the novel was presented at the Sharjah International Publishers Conference and at the London International Book Fair that happened in March 2024.
We are thrilled to announce that in addition to print, Whispers from Vera has been adapted into other formats, for increased accessibility and convenience. In order to reach new audiences, Whispers from Vera is undergoing translation into other languages. The novel has been translated into Amharic by Brana Audiobooks, an Ethiopian-based company; and a translation into French is planned.
